WebComic: Ninja Part 1

I have two favorite jokes and my ultimate favorite joke about Seagulls and Bagels I already used in a comic strip (here) and on Tuesday it won me a contest (here.)

With one joke earning me a prize, I figured I would try to make a strip about my second favorite joke, but I’m not going to make it until next week. This week’s comic is just the set-up.

So, go and check out this week’s comic strip – the set-up for the real joke next week: http://www.spacebooger.com/index.php?comicID=106

WebComic: Dr. Pantsless

I came up with the concept for this strip last Friday afternoon while looking forward to seeing the Watchmen, and most everyone now knows what I thought of the movie by now. I was not put off by the nakedness of Dr. Manhattan, instead I was annoyed that parents were taking their young children to see the movie.

This comic strip is more of a continuity joke going back to when the Booger found twenty bucks in the pocket of his pants. In that strip BarryFly was confused with the fact that the Booger wears pants since his looks like a penguin not a pants wearing human. Mix in the fact that Dr. Manhattan wanders the Earth nude with the now ongoing pants joke and the result is this weeks comic strip.

The Booger Prepares for the Terrible Twos

thursdayy2

On January 17, 2007 the world (wide web) got to see the Booger and his supporting cast for the first time.
The concept for SpaceBooger the webcomic is simple: A boy, a Booger, a Butterfly on steroids, and the Missing Piece of Pac-Man are all trapped on a broken down spaceship floating in space with nothing but the internet and pop culture to entertain them.

After two years, the comic and its characters have evolved and changed, but the essence of each characters are still the same.

The Booger was designed with a 3-prong plug adapter as a head, a penguin’s body, and a shape on his chest similar to the skull on the Punisher’s costume.
In the first couple comic strips the Booger looked lifeless and emotionless. Since the first comic, the Booger has evolved. No longer does his head look exactly like a pug adapter, this was changed so that he could have emotional facial expressions.
The Booger is not the only character to change; the Boy now has a face and makes fewer appearances than in the first year.

The only character not to change is the Missing Piece of Pac-Man. The Missing Piece makes me laugh every time I draw him. His constant sad look is heartwarming and hilarious, and will continue until he finally feels that he “fits in” somewhere.

Not part of the original cast and introduced in December 2007 was the Booger’s arch enemy/best friend BarryFly. BarryFly originated as a sketch that I was working on when trying to create a villain for the Booger during his attempt to become a superhero. I joked around saying that Barry-Fly was a butterfly on steroids and in comic number 30 we learn that the Booger himself accidentally created BarryFly.

Here are my five favorite strips from the comic’s second year:

WebComic: Personal Ad – Part 1

You know that you have wanted to create, or have created, a ridiculous personal ad for a friend.

Back when Yahoo hosted free personal ads some friends and I created a hilarious and quite sexually explicit one for another of our friends. The emails he received were quite funny, especially the first ones that he never expected.

So this is the Booger playing the same type of prank with BarryFly, but he still has some more creative things to write. Check back next Wednesday to see what else the Booger changes on BarryFly’s profile.

WebComic: The Scream

Ahh, the most common misconception in science fiction – noise in space.

Many movies get this concept wrong, but here at SpaceBooger we only promote good science! (for this week at least…)

Be sure to visit list of Bad Movie Physics and Phil Plait’s Bad Astronomy website to read more about bad use of science in popular fiction.

Here it is the promised double sized comic strip! http://www.spacebooger.com/index.php?comicID=51

WebComic: A Death in the Community!

First off I know that I promised a double sized 50th strip this week, but how could SpaceBooger not respond to a death in our own WebComic Community?

If you have not read Monday’s installment of “The Rack” you many want to check it out first because this week’s SpaceBooger comic contains spoilers.

In the comic book community the death of a comic character has become somewhat of a joke. Death, which should be permanent, seems to have the same revolving door in comic books that a soap operas have. Monday’s installment of “The Rack” featured the death of a character. The character may not have been very prominent or memorable, as joked about in my SpaceBooger strip, but the death seemed real and emotional. Unlike the deaths in the major publisher’s comics, this death did not seem like a gimmick or unnecessary sacrifice. The death of Alfredo, a seemingly unknown character seems real and emotional because of how it effects the other characters, not the story line.

There is not too much to say about this week’s comic since readers of “The Rack” will get it and those who don’t read it better jump on the bandwagon. The Rack is a comic strip about a comic shop written by Kevin Church (beaucoupkevin.com) who writes web and print comics and even has a comic blog in which partially served as a template for SpaceBooger.com. Benjamin Birdie (benjaminbirdie.com) is the other half of the dynamic duo and provides the art chores on the comic. I have always believed that fame can be granted to some only by death – Alfredo’s chance for fame is near. I look forward to some flashback strips featuring Alfredo in the near future over at www.therackcomic.com

WebComic: Interrogation

The Spammer’s storyline is close to coming to an end. Not only is the storyline ending soon, the life of the little captured Spammer may also come to an end if he does not tell the Booger what he wants to know.

Special Features:

In the second panel we see the Spammer finally give in to the electric shock torture. This panel is based on the scene in Rambo: First Blood Part II where the Soviet Military torture John Rambo after being captured by the Vietnamese.

The Spammer doing what it does best, using another’s identity, states that he is the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Originally the dialog from the third panel said “Shut Up! I’m not the DJ and you’re not the Rapper. Keep using stolen identities if you want…” I still don’t know why I picked Will Smith as the stolen identity… maybe it was because I just watched “I Am Legend” again recently.

Don’t get the references made in the webcomic, then get them from Amazon.com

WebComic: Capture

Today’s webcomic continues the invasion of our character’s privacy by Spammers.

The motivation towards the handeling of the captured Spammer comes from this comic related video game:

Webcomic: Shields!

This weeks webcomic is a continuation from last week’s attack on our favorite character’s spaceship. In the past no part of the ship has really been shown in detail other than in the Year One strips, and last week the first image of the the bridge was shown. This week’s comic shows the bridge again in more detail along with what each of the four character’s jobs are.

I used the same image of the bridge from last week for two reasons:

Webcomic: A Brave New X-Box

There is not much to say for this week’s webcomic that is not in the comic itself, but if you need assistance:

Get it… Barry Fly enjoys reading “Brave New World” and the guy who plays the video games calls him dumb.
