WebComic: Are Browns Fans Renewable Resources?

Are Cleveland Browns Fans Renewable Resources?
Good question huh. I am afraid that the true “die-hard,” non “front running” (assuming they win,) fans are becoming extinct.

I noticed that last Friday at school none of the student’s were wearing Browns jerseys. I did see one Ravens jersey, a couple of Bengals jerseys, and a sea of Steelers jerseys on middle school students in Akron Ohio. Seeing that many Steelers jerseys in what used to be a “Browns Town” was sickening because the Cleveland Browns are seemingly interwoven into my DNA, no matter what happens I will always bleed Orange and Brown.

I know that everyone, including me, are trying to do their best to save the planet so that we can pass a “healthy” world to our children… Well what about the Browns?
If we are trying to create a better planet to pass on to the next generation, what is Randy Learner and the front office of the Cleveland Browns planning to pass on to the youth and future generations?

WebComic: Steroid Dream

Ok, I am tired of turning on ESPN everyday during my workout to hear more “Steroids in Baseball” talk. Its already been labeled as “The Steroid Era,” so why can’t we accept it and move on.

I wish any baseball steroid related drama in the future is similar to that in this week’s comic strip – nothing more than a dream.

FNF – Real Life Saturday Night Fights: Pacquiao vs Hatton

I am not just the host for Friday Night Fights, but I am also a real life boxing fan. Prior to FNF: OPP round 11 I recommended that everyone order the Pacquiao vs Hatton PPV and wow what a knockout in round 2:

That is one of the most massive KO’s I have ever seen.

Let’s see if the final round of FNF:O.P.P. is as good as last night’s fight!

WebComic: Ohio Boy

I have been a resident of the Akron, Ohio area my whole life.  During my 33 years on this Earth, I have loved my Cleveland sports teams win or loose, so this week’s webcomic is both funny and sad to me on a personal level.

I am not one of those Cleveland fans who takes the “Woe Is Me” attitude. I have been through it all; I watched “the drive,” “the fumble,” “the Mesa,” “the shot,” and for all of the bad I can proudly proclaim that “I am a Witness!”

That’s what it’s about for a Cleveland sports fan, we want a championship now, but we love our teams and our town so much that we will be at every game cheering for a championship no matter how long we have to wait. Sometimes I truly believe that our motto is “Waiting for Next Year,” and you know what? I will wait for next year, and the next, and even the next because I love my teams and hate the Pittsburgh Steelers.

To sum up my feelings during the Superbowl, Scott from WFNY said it best “Browns fans lose when their team doesn’t even play.” And yes I am sour that the Steelers won their sixth Superbowl, not because I am jealous, but because I hate them… it’s called a rivalry.

I do have to admit, watching LeBron James get 52 points and a triple-double at Madison Square Garden tonight made me smile a little bit. For once, New York wants something we have; they want LeBron and next year they will want our championship. I guess they will be the ones waiting for next year, or hoping for 2010. For now I am going to enjoy my teams no matter how high (the Cavs) or low (the Browns) the rollercoaster that is Clevleand sports takes me, because I love my teams.

Is Boxing now Retro?

I belong to a “Retro Gaming” site, www.racketboy.com, and yesterday as I was getting pumped up for Kelly Pavlik’s first title defense I posed the following question:

Anyone here still watch Boxing?
With all of the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) stuff nowadays Boxing falls into the retro sport category.
Since this is a retro gaming site, I was wondering if anyone, other than me, was into boxing?
I mention this because I am excited to watch the middleweight champion of the world, who is a local boy, defend his title for the first time tonight.
If you don’t watch boxing tonight’s Kelly Pavlik fight would be a good starting point.

I hate to say it but there seems to be something Retro about Boxing… now before my hardcore boxing friends read this, yes you Brandon, I don’t think that labeling Boxing “retro” is a negative thing. Retro can be described as “functioning much like “timeless” or “classic”” and I consider Boxing a sweet since and classic, not full of old men but a sport full of tradition and a rich history.

So I ask you: First, do you watch boxing and how regularly? Second, would you consider boxing a classic, or retro, sport? Now type your answer in and leave me a comment.

Before this post ends here is my take on last night’s fights.

There were 4 fights last night and two first round knockouts. I have not seen a first round KO in a while:

Here is a great 1st round KO from last night Pall Williams vs Carlos Quintana Rematch. Quintana was the favorite, you just need to watch the first 2:30 of the following video:

As for the main event – Youngstown Ohio’s Kelly Pavlik defending his title showed his power - and I mean POWER - and all three rounds are worth watching:

The stats for Kelly from this fight were amazing… He can be the savior that brings boxing back to the main stream!

Welcome Back Webcomic!

I’m back from my honeymoon in New York and the WedWebcomic is updated.

I just got back into town and quickly updated the webcomic. Don’t expect too many posts until the weekend even though I am back in town. I have to unpack and get my regular and work life back under control.

I’m off to watch my first Cavs game on TV… the wedding and honeymoon interfered with my Cavs and Comic time… but it was worth every lost moment… except the ones I am wasting typing this…

More updates this weekend.

Baseball Time: Go Tribe!

One never realizes how much time sports takes up, especially when your home (favorite) team is in the playoffs.

Last Saturday the Cleveland Indians’ win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 or the ALCS took over 5 hours. Most baseball games last between 3 and 4 hours, which is not as bad as 5. On a weekday 3 to 4 hours is a large chunk, almost the whole chunk, of my night… and this round of the playoffs can go 7 games.

So I present to you some Baseball love from Young Justice #27, and remember
GO TRIBE!

Your starting line-up

The wind-up

Pavlik goes down in the 2nd – KOs Taylor in the 7th

[youtube Rx1jrQeqvlg nolink]

Last night I saw one of the greatest fights ever!

I thought that in the 2nd round local fighter Kelly Pavlik was dead. Jermaine Taylor hit him with clean right to the head plus more, dropping Pavlik to the mat.

Pavlik nearly wasn’t around after the second round, when Taylor caught him with an overhand right and then sent him to his hands and knees with a fusillade of rights and lefts.
But Pavlik survived the round “as if nothing had happened,” marveled Taylor’s trainer, Emanuel Steward.
“When I saw that, I said, ‘Wow, we’re in trouble,” Steward said.

After looking like he was down and out for the count, Pavlik keep backing Taylor into the corner, but never took advantage of it… that is until the 7th round.

Pavlik regained momentum in the third, backing Taylor into a corner and landing several lefts and rights to the head. But Taylor counterpunched effectively, leaving Pavlik bleeding from the nose and mouth by the end of the fifth round.
Taylor repeatedly worked out of the corners, often throwing some of his best combinations while working out of jams. But he used that tactic once too often, and in the seventh round it worked against him.

“Now, I’m up there with all the great Ohio champions,”
“We’re a small city. We’re a town of only 92,000 people. But those types of world champions out there — it’s an honor to be out there with these guys.”
- Kelly Pavlik on his KO victory over Jermaine Taylor

Keep it local!

Last night was Friday Night Fights, tonight:

BOOM! THUD! KRACKKKKK!

Boxing is one of those sports that was once bigger than life. In the past the world champion was more of a superstar than any other person in the United States. No football, NBA, or MLB player held more clout than the champ.  Boxers were so well respected as athletes and warriors of the common people that some comic book characters started out as boxers.

Wildcat, Ted Grant, was nothing more than a boxer who put on a costume and successfully fought crime, and even helped save the world a couple of times. Tonight I look forward to watching a local boy named Kelly Pavlik from Youngstown, Ohio wail on Jermain Taylor.

Another local superstar, and player of my favorite NBA team, LeBron James will host SNL tonight. I will record SNL so that I can enjoy the fight with my friends, but after the fight it’s on – literally. After watching the hype of the local high school star, watching the hype of the Cleveland Cavs’ rookie phenom, watching the comedy of Nike’s commercials, and watching him co-host the ESPYS I can’t wait to see if LeBron and Andy Samburg collaborate on a song.
