As we all prepare to celebrate Valentines Day tomorrow with our loved ones, remember our love should not extend to a select few. First and foremost we are all part of one big family on Earth.
So tomorrow as you share cards and chocolates as an analogy of love, don’t forget to share a little love with those who still need our help in Haiti!
Happy Valentines Day everybody!
There are currently four people living in our house. Both adults and the one and a half year-old have bad colds while the six month-old is showing signs of the sniffles too.
Not only are the humans in the house sick, my wife’s cat was diagnosed with “fatty liver disease” his liver shut down after losing seven pounds which is about 1/3 his normal weight. Now he (the cat) has a feeding tube that goes directly into his stomach. We have to feed him via syringe and tube with liquefied cat food every 2-3 hours. By doing this it will “jump start” his liver again and he should be back to normal in 4-6 weeks.
So no content for today (unless you count this lil blurb), but I will be posting Friday Night Fights tomorrow so make sure you come back tomorrow @ 11pm.
If you grew up in the late 70’s and early 80’s like I did the Muppets were the funniest thing on TV. I still love the Muppets and find them funnier than most shows on TV today. I look forward the the day when I can pull out my copies of the Muppet Show on DVD to enjoy with my kids.
So maybe in a couple years my Thankful List will include watching the Muppets with my family, because similes and family are the little things that I am thankful for each and every day.
I hate the way schools are funded in Ohio!
Yesterday was election day and the state government offered to give the school district that I work for about twenty million dollars to build new schools if the people who lived there passed a property tax increase of equal value. With the recession and many people living in that community not working, the levy failed by 80 votes. I understand the people not having extra money, but since the levy failed the government won’t give us any of the money. It was an all or nothing deal. Each of the schools in the district need new roofs and heating/cooling systems. In order to pay to replace or fix them we have to go back to the community and ask for more property tax money… and according to our superintendent, the needed repair, which is dictated by the state, will cost more in the end than the original levy. So instead of getting twenty million dollars at once, the district will have to nickel and dime the community to death. I really hate the way that Ohio funds its schools.
Anyway, today’s comic strip is my attempt at humor after being dumped on by the state on election day.

Last Week In Comics (LWIC) will be delayed one day.
I have to complete report cards tonight. With the various strains of the flu and large number of children who have had it, my pile of make-up grading took longer to finish than I though, so I need the extra time to finish my “day job” this evening.
Check back tomorrow for the winner of last week’s “Friday Night Fights” along with my opinions on last week’s comics.

If you think your life changes a lot in one year as an adult, sit back and watch a child grow – it’s amazing!

Monday morning at 5:30am my wife and I will be taking our 10 month-old son to have surgery on his lazy/crossed left eye.
Since this is the first surgery for Cal (yes his middle initial is “L”) I have no idea what the day has in store for us, so I may or may not post Last Week In Comics on Monday evening.
Every week my wife complains a little bit about Friday Night Fights. We have to plan our weekend around it. Its not so much the “not doing anything on Friday” that bothers her as much as the amount of time I spend on the computer making my entry, checking email, following links, and typing up the post. The reason my wife puts up with me on the computer from 7-10PM (average time) every Friday is because I enjoy it. Friday Night Fights is time consuming, time I could be spending with my family, but I really enjoy doing it so she doesn’t mind.
When I was just a participant I enjoyed the challenges when Bahlactus (the originator of FNF) would do themes such as Uppercut, Ladies Night, and Black-n-White more that his “free for all” type fights. Yeah it took longer for me to find an image to post, but in the end it always seemed better than taking the easy route and just posting a random fight image. When I took over Friday Night Fights, I continued the themes that Bahlactus originaly implemented, but since doing so people have complained about them, especially with the newest round.
I want Firday Night Fights to be challenging, I want some cohesiveness, and I don’t want just any fight images being posted. I think of it as writing another post for the blog. I can either post something that does not take a lot of time or thought and then no no one will probably read/discuss, or I can put more time and effort into a post that may warrant more readers and discussion about the topic.
I guess what I am trying to say is with all the complaining about the fights (themes) along with the time it takes away from my family, I am rethinking Friday Night Fights. By rethinking them I decided that I will not give up my integrity and change the rules, instead I just may rethink how to host them. This is not a threat, nor is it a guilt trip. I just thought I should let everyone know how I feel about this situation since many have shared their dislike to me. So there it is… with my fun removed from FNF by many complaints I am rethinking whether or not to host the fights anymore and spend the time doing something else that wont generate as much negativity – like posting quality fights myself.
Friday Night Fights will continue. If you have a proper entry please let me know every Friday by 8PM, and if you can’t find something that works for that particular night just come by and vote for the winner because at the end of the tweleve rounds someone is going to get the Amazon gift certificate to buy themselves some new “fight music” no matter how many compete each week.
