I don’t know if you knew it or not, but I love the new Blue Beetle comic.
Many people love the “art” but that is not my attraction to the comic, I am more of a “story” type of guy. My attraction lies mainly with the storyline and the characterizations. Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes, has one of the best written supporting cast of all comics right now. With the strenght in the writing I am sad to have read that John Rogers will be writing Blue Beetle no more.
I love Jaime; I love all the characters. It’s continually been the most fun I’ve had in my writing career. I have a real sense of ownership having spent the time to build this character up into somebody who had a story and a really great supporting cast. I want to go down the road with him, so I might kick in for a story when I can, but right now I want to really concentrate on these other projects.

At least Mr. Rogers will be finishing writing how Jaime takes out the crazy aliens hellbent on taking over the Earth in issue #25.
It’s temporary, although I don’t know exactly when I’m coming back to the book. What happened is, essentially, Keith and I always wanted to tell the origin story and #25 wraps up that origin for Jaime.
What’s happened is that Jaime has discovered that the seemingly unrelated incidents he’s been dealing with all the way through year two actually gave him the clues to discover The Reach’s evil 100-year-long, subtle plan to take over the world. He decided to strike at them before they could use their abilities to sort of reorganize. Once they reorganize, once they’ve got that advantage, he has no chance. So he had to hit them really fast and really hard. We’ve seen him studying the notes that Ted Kord left behind and the different methods and strategies he picked up. And the different lessons he’s taken from all the heroes he’s run into over the two years that have brought him to being a mature superhero able to take care of a threat.

Man to friends: Dude, I believe in Jesus the same way I believe in Batman — the awesome way!

From one of the following sites:
Sorry for the lack of an update yesterday. As you may have noticed on my Twitter that I was not feeling well yesterday, and today is no different…
Instead of a post yesterday today is a Double Post Friday: Breaking Links now, and Friday Night Fights later in the evening.

FOX News.com is reporting that the Joker may have claimed his first real life victim: Heath Ledger.
The FOX News website has quotes from someone who was close to the late Heath Ledger who said that the preparation and the role of the Joker in the upcoming Batman movie The Dark Knight may have lead to the prescriptions that the actor accidentally overdosed on.
“He said that ever since filming ‘Batman,’ he was having massive sleeping issues,” the friend said. “He became so into that role that it really messed with his head, on top of what he had to go through in terms of the paparazzi and missing [his daughter] Matilda. He just kept saying that nothing he tried helped him sleep and it was stressing him out like crazy. But I really feel like it was ‘Batman’ that tipped him over the edge.”

It looks like I am not the only one who is concerned for Cap’s manhood:

Today NEWSARAM posted the Alex Ross design for the return of Captain America.
Looking at the costume I notice that the metal chest/abdomen piece forms a point right above his piece. Every time Cap bends down he risks his manhood being sliced off by a pointy piece of metal.

Captain America may become Castrated America if he is not careful.

Last winter I won the complete 1989 run of Hawk & Dove.
Just last week I started to read through them and keep wanting to post something… but I know that whatever I create will never bee as good as Dr. Scott’s “The Hawk and Dove Chronicles”
So click the link and read along with me. I’ll read the real issues and you read his reviews. Currently I am on issue 14 where Hawk’s girlfriend has been taken over by Kestrel.

Over at Newsarama there is an article about DC’s newest comic from thier new “kid friendly” line of comics: Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam.

Growing up I remember Captain Marvel from the cartoon on TV, except I thought his name was Shazam.
I never realized that Shazam was the name of the wizard, but it didn’t matter. The only thing that mattered was that a young boy about my age could turn into a Superman type hero, who cared what his exact name was.
I have read many comics that either starred or featured Captain Marvel since then, but in most of the comics he never seemed that interesting.
There are 2 exceptions:
1. Captain Marvel’s appearance in Justice League Unlimited where he was still young Billy Batson living in the mightiest mortals body.
2. Jeff Smith’s Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil made Mary Marvel one of the most lovable characters ever.
I do not know much about Mike Kunkel but the following quotes from the Newsarama article has me sold that he can bring the magic back to the Marvel family:
“I want this story to truly be told from both sides of the coin … 11 year-old Billy Batson and adult Captain Marvel. The very best hero stories are when you really care and know about the character before they put on their “super-suit.” To me, Captain Marvel is every kid’s wish come true.”
“When Billy transforms into his alter ego of Captain Marvel, his mental and physical abilities are super enhanced by the six iconic legends that make up the magical word “Shazam,” but he’s still the same person. It’s how I’ve always seen it. Just seems simpler and makes sense.”
Most people who read this site probably already check Newsarama on a daily basis like me, but for those who do not: click the link to read about Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam.

September 10, 1983 I was about a week away from turning 8 years-old… So why do I not remember some of these shows.
I remember Pac-Man, the Moonchhices, and of course Scooby Doo… Menudo is another story for another time, but the Rubik’s Cube had his own show?
I love the Rubik’s Cube and the math behind its solution amazes me… Check out these links:

This link has got to be one of the funniest things recommended to me recently.
It is a breakup letter that is read exactly how it is written. As a middle school teacher I find this funny because we find these types of notes everyday littering the halls.
It is not safe for work unless you have your speakers turned down and you just read it… but where is the fun in that, you need to listen to it to truly enjoy.
