WebComic: A Death in the Community!

First off I know that I promised a double sized 50th strip this week, but how could SpaceBooger not respond to a death in our own WebComic Community?

If you have not read Monday’s installment of “The Rack” you many want to check it out first because this week’s SpaceBooger comic contains spoilers.

In the comic book community the death of a comic character has become somewhat of a joke. Death, which should be permanent, seems to have the same revolving door in comic books that a soap operas have. Monday’s installment of “The Rack” featured the death of a character. The character may not have been very prominent or memorable, as joked about in my SpaceBooger strip, but the death seemed real and emotional. Unlike the deaths in the major publisher’s comics, this death did not seem like a gimmick or unnecessary sacrifice. The death of Alfredo, a seemingly unknown character seems real and emotional because of how it effects the other characters, not the story line.

There is not too much to say about this week’s comic since readers of “The Rack” will get it and those who don’t read it better jump on the bandwagon. The Rack is a comic strip about a comic shop written by Kevin Church (beaucoupkevin.com) who writes web and print comics and even has a comic blog in which partially served as a template for SpaceBooger.com. Benjamin Birdie (benjaminbirdie.com) is the other half of the dynamic duo and provides the art chores on the comic. I have always believed that fame can be granted to some only by death – Alfredo’s chance for fame is near. I look forward to some flashback strips featuring Alfredo in the near future over at www.therackcomic.com
