Countdown to 2009

Liefeld returns to Image, despite background (or lack there of).

Earlier at Newsarama they posted an interview with Rob Liefeld about Youngblood returning to Image Comics. Below I have posted a couple interesting parts:

Newarama: Now you’re not returning to Image as a partner, but nevertheless it is a return of sorts. So let’s start by asking - did you ever think you’d see this day?

Rob Liefeid: Good question, and the answer is “yes” actually. It was all about wrists, ankles, and proportions. Once the folks at Image saw my issues of Onslaught Reborn they realized that I may never draw backgrounds but I now draw wrists, ankles, and keep proportions in mind.

NRMA: Your exit was somewhat (or even very-what) contentious. And over the years since some words and alternating versions of events have been exchanged between you and some remaining partners.
So what, if anything, has changed recently?

RL: First of all the big guns never changed, Image is still packin heat. That is why I love Image with Erik in charge he draws big guns in the Savage Dragon, and therefore I can still draw extremely extraordinarily large guns. Nothing is cooler, or more exciting, than characters shooting guns too big for them to possibly hold… other than giant shoulder pads.

NRMA: Again, given that you both acknowledge the original series had its flaws, again, why do you think it’s appropriate to revive it? What core or seed do you think is still there to continue to give it new life?

RL: Two reasons a real writer and artist. Youngblood was an exciting comic to read, unless you wanted story to go along with dynamic exaggerated backgroundless art. The story might have started out as a mixture of a Teen Titans pitch I made mixed with some of my New Mutant ideas, but a story about a government/corporate controlled superhero team is a great concept. So adding a real writer and an artist, that is not known for drawing Captain America with boobs, is a great reason to give the series new life.
